Redefining the word "remix", Mariaelena "RiRi" Garcia aka DJ Rimarkable™ is a renaissance woman indeed. A vocalist, lyricist, drummer, producer and DJ to name a few, her multi-talents have taken her to many stages.
Truly mastering the DJ technique of "Reading the Crowd", she has earned the moniker, "Rimarkable.” For over 13 years, she has played internationally at a wide range of events from bar mitzvahs to the Michigan Womyns Music Festival to the CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival, to sharing the bill with such as, Meshell Ndegeocello, Toshi Reagon, Les Nubians and THEESatisfaction to wowing crowds at the hottest clubs in NYC. She has event production collaborations with the NYC Hip-Hop Theater Festival and Sybarite Productions.
With the return of the industry’s demand for multi-faceted artists, Ms. Garcia also takes on the roll of producer for her own work as well as for others. Her original work was featured in the off-Broadway production, "Where My Girls @?". She has remixed several bodies of work for such artists as, hip-hop artist, Invincible (EMERgence/PPP), folksoul artist gina Breedlove, and nu-jazz vocalist, Valerie Troutt. Ms. Garcia’s soundscape’s also have reached the fashion runways of Tommy Hilfiger, Elle Magazine and Naomi Campbell’s Haiti Benefit and Fashion Week opener during NYC’s Spring Fashion Week 2010. She has penned and performed commercial theme songs for Puma-Time, Blog Talk Radio and more.
Although this daughter of a classical trained pianist’s very first exposure to music was classical, she has developed appreciation for all genres of music, but specific love for the sultriness of soul, the fire in funk and the freedom of house music, all being derivatives of gospel music. As a true child of the "church", this is apparent in her vocals. The former lead singer of the funk sensational, Detroit-based, Soul Power Experience Unlimited Band, who records under the name, “Ri Ri Garcia”, brought all genres together for her 2007 self produced project, "This Too Shall Pass". The stunning debut recording, proved to be a classic. It featured the underground smash hit single, "Get In", which is soon to be issued as a special edition, re-mastered, re-edited, vinyl 7”, on Alala Recordings.
Garcia has lent her vocals to the inaugural release of Gregory Del Piero’s “I Love You More” on Del/Raisani Records, "In the Churches", which became a top 5 hit on European dance charts and an underground house classic. Recently released on the Detroit house music label, Beatdown Sounds, is the single, "Some Kind Of Effect On Me", a collaboration with legendary house music wizard, Agent X and Del Piero.
Keep watching for this, take-no-prisoners female artist, making her mark.
