Willem Rebergen, aka Headhunterz, is a Dutch DJ and producer who goes hard — hardstyle and hard dance, that is. After less than a decade on the decks, Headhunterz can already lay claim to the #1 hardstyle DJ in the world, and he has almost single-handedly brought hardstyle into the mainstream. If you said Rebergen was born to be a performer, you wouldn’t be too far off the mark. At age nine Rebergen sang in a children’s choir and recorded several albums. By age 10 he had already started voice acting, a profession he continues to this day. His EDM breakthrough came after performing at the Defqon Festival, a massive hardstyle music festival in the Netherlands. He caught the attention of legendary hardstyle DJ The Prophet, who promptly signed Rebergen to his Scantraxx label. Eventually, due to his exploding popularity, Headhunterz would go on to launch his own sublabel imprint, Scantraxx Reloaded, in 2006. In 2008, Headhunter teamed up with another notable Dutch hardstyle DJ, Wildstylez, to create the group Project One. Over the course of three months the duo created a thirteen-track album, finishing approximately one track a week. Two years later a second album, Studio Sessions, was released to critical and commercial acclaim, which led to an international tour across North America, Australia, Russia, and Holland. In 2010, Headhunterz became the first Hardstyle DJ in the world to make DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ List. A year later, he had jumped all the way up to #17, and in 2012 Headhunterz was ranked#11 in the world. He has played just about every major hardstyle event in the world, including Defqon.1, Qlimax, Q-Base, and In Qontrol, and continues to lead the way with his skillful productions and live performances. 2013 has already been a big year as Headhunterz agreed to sign with one of the industry giants, the massive Ultra Music label. When asked about his own creative process and the future of hardstyle, Headhunterz had this to say: “Hardstyle has a very big following and that proves that we already have something fantastic in our hands. To see how music evolves we only have to take a look in the past and see that changes have always come unexpectedly, even for the producers themselves, and above all, slowly and naturally. My philosophy is to try to stay close to myself and to make music from out of my subconsious.
